Studies on the Physiology of Bolting and Flowering in Raphanus sativus L.

Abstract
Six radish (Raphanus sativus L.) cultivars, Jinjoo-daepyong, Joongkuk-cheongpi, Minong-Josaeng, 40 days, Jeokhwan 20 days, Sax, and two F©û hybrids (Sax ¡¿ Jinjoo-daepyong, Jeokhwan 20 days ¡¿ Joongkuk-cheongpi) were grown to evaluate the sensitivity to day length and irradiant flux. Jinjoo-daepyong was most sensitive to day length and followed in order of Jeokhwan 20 days, 40 days, Joongkuk-cheongpi, Sax and Minong-josaeng. Three cultivars, Jinjoo-daepyong, Jeokhwan 20 days and Sax did not show any difference between full and 2/3 sun light conditions in the rate of bolting, whereas the other 3 cultivars presented significant differences. It implies that response to irradiant flux is different by genotypes in radish. The bolting time of an F©û hybrid was declined slightly to the earlier parent in every day-length treatment. The rate of bolting of the other F©û cross was also similar to the higher parent in both of the full and 2/3 sun light conditions. Therefore, characters sensitive to the day length and irradiant flux seem to be partially dominant over the counter traits.
